APPLE PIE

Preperation Time: 15 minutes.
Cooking Time: 40 minutes.
Serves: 8 .

Ingredients:

  1. 4 tbsps sugar
  2. 225 grams shortcrust pastry
  3. 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  4. 5 large cooking apples
  5. A little milk or beaten egg for glazing
  6. Juice of 1/2 lemon
  7. Vanilla ice-cream or fresh cream to serve


Method of Preparation:
 
Step 1: Mix the lemon juice and 1/2 teacup of water.
 
Step 2: Peel, core and slice the apple and add the lemon juice and water.
 
Step 3: Add the sugar and cook until pulpy and all the water evaporates.
 
Step 4: Add the cinnamon powder and mix well.
 
Step 5: Divide the pastry dough into two parts.
 
Step 6: Roll out one part on a lightly floured board to fit a 175mm. or 200mm. diameter pie dish.
 
Step 7: Place it in an ungreased pie dish of this size. Prick with a fork all over.
 
Step 8: Bake in a hot oven at 450 degres F. for about 6 minutes.
 
Step 9: Remove from the oven and fill it up with the prepared apple stew.
 
Step 10: Roll out the remaining dough to fit the top of the pie. Put it over the pie and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
 
Step 11: Make a few slits on the top with a sharp knife for the steam to escape.
 
Step 12: Brush with a little milk or beaten egg for the glaze.
 
Step 13: Bake in a hot oven at 450 degres F. for 10 to 15 minutes.
 
Step 14: Cool the pie and cut into slices.
 
Serve with vanilla ice-cream.
